A Joyful Day at Hofstra!

Hevreh Ensemble presented a residency for Hofstra University on Friday April 1st. It was a magical day; filled with concert/demonstrations, master classes and a full length evening concert presented by Hofstra’s Cultural Arts Center. We are excited to announce that the events were filmed and a mini documentary will be made by our incredible record label PARMA. Stay tuned for news about the release!

We were honored to be joined by our dear friend and incredible Tabla player Naren Budhakar. As part of our residency, we presented a concert/demonstration for the Chamber Music Course- Music 20. The students were treated to a demonstration of the Tabla by Naren, where he explained the intricate rhythmic structures that he uses in his playing.

Group member Laurie Friedman presented an insightful world instrument workshop for students from Hofstra’s Honor College. She demonstrated a wide range of instruments using her own collection of global instruments from Africa, India, Pakistan, China, Vietnam, Japan, Israel, Egypt, Ireland, England, Russia, Spain, United States, and various Latin American nations. The workshop also included a stirring demonstration of the shofar!

Hevreh member and keyboardist Adam Morrison presented an innovative workshop on improvisation.

All in all, a perfect day!!
